Vibration Monitoring,

Dynamic Instrumentation

for Blasting & Construction

Blast Vibration Specialists

Based in Colorado, Detecht provides monitoring services for construction and blasting across the United States. We specialize in unique instrumentation applications to complete projects in a safe and cost-effective manner while protecting structures, critical infrastructure, and the environment. Our experienced team applies advanced academic degrees in civil, mining, and explosives engineering to proudly advance the knowledge of the blasting and explosives industries. Our applied research continues with 14 peer-reviewed publications and numerous presentations at the International Society of Explosives Engineers (ISEE), Society of Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME), and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), among others.

Areas of Expertise

Blast Vibration Monitoring

Detecht has a wide range of instrumentation to measure ground vibrations, structure response, crack motion, and strains, data which can assist blasters in design and show compliance with local regulations.   We can also evaluate current blasting practices, provide signature hole analysis, and make recommendations to improve vibrations from blasting.

Vibration effects on Critical infrastructure and Historic buildings

Our team has consulted to contractors, municipalities, and engineers when blasting approaches infrastructure such as gas pipelines, fiber optic lines, and dams. Extensive monitoring and careful blast design ensure explosives are used safely without service interruptions and minimal risk. Our past research has informed regulation decisions concerning historic buildings affected by blasting and construction vibrations.

Underwater Blasting: Pressure monitoring

Measuring water pressure pulses is a unique challenge when blasting underwater.  Detecht consultants have been involved in several pier demolition and underwater rock blasting projects. They are experienced with the special challenges that come with marine monitoring and have published on best practices for underwater instrumentation.

Construction vibration/noise monitoring

Careful use of vibration-producing construction equipment is important for the protection of nearby structures. Detecht consultants have extensive experience characterizing vibrations to make recommendations of safe operation distances from structures to pile driving, vibratory compaction, and rock hammering. We can monitor specific equipment or deploy long-term monitoring stations for ground vibrations and noise limit compliance.

Structure Condition Surveys

Photographic documentation of structure conditions including all cracks and defects prior to construction or blasting provides a clear record for all stakeholders. Detecht consultants have performed over 1,000 structure condition surveys. We take hundreds of high-resolution still photographs, provide comprehensive reports, and video document where appropriate.

Specialized Instrumentation

Detecht has a variety of instrumentation ready for any specialized need from accelerometers to noise meters, hydrophones to geophones. Detecht consultants have measured extremely close-in blast pressures, strains on buried pipelines, and wharf pile movement in the support of blasting projects with tight proximity to sensitive structures. We are always looking for ways to deploy unique instrumentation schemes to understand complex phenomena and further our collective knowledge of explosives.
